Long time IBMer Keith Nott passed away last week. He was aged 86. He leaves behind his children Robyn and Michael, their partners, and 4 beloved grandchildren.
Keith studied Accountancy and worked for his father’s wholesale / importing business before joining IBM in the Services Bureau in Palmer Street, Sydney in 1964. He then moved into a Marketing role in the General Systems Division where he had a territory at one stage of ‘everything north and west of Parramatta’. Keith was a successful as a Salesman and later as a Sales Manager. He attained Hundred Percent Club for every year that he was on quota – 15 years! He also received a couple of Golden Circle awards. Lots of fun must have been had at Branch meetings in those days. There are stories of him and colleagues dressing up as the Village People and singing for the team!
With his experience in midrange systems, IBM moved Keith with his family to Atlanta GA, USA for 2 years in the early 1980’s where he managed a team of ex-pat Aussies, Canadians and British who were adapting mid range software from being US centric to be sold in those countries. On his return to Australia he joined the APC to work for Frank Barr-David and with long time colleagues Ron Carr, Ian Neale and Len Norman.
Keith’s final role at IBM was to set up the Business Recovery Services team in 1989, starting with a business case and lots of contacts in mid range customers, and leaving a legacy of a very successful IBM business.
Keith retired in 1996, after 32 years at IBM. He and his beloved wife Jenny enjoyed a great retirement until Jenny passed away in 2013. Keith has been living a good life of volunteering, Probus, church and family since then. He was a kind and generous man who was extremely good at talking to everyone. He will be greatly missed.
A Service of Thanksgiving will be held for Keith:
Date: Thursday 25th June
Venue: St James Anglican church, King St, Turramurra
Time: From 1:30pm
All are welcome to join the family in celebrating Keith’s life.
