Congratulations on a wonderful day of memories and experiences.
All the best 👏
On Wednesday 13th of May Bill Horn celebrated his 100 years at the Portsea Golf Club with a group of his former IBM colleagues. Back in the IBM days I found Bill very easy to work with, we seem to have a natural connection. Maybe, because Bill’s mother was a Clayton from Scotland. Perhaps we are distant cousins. One of Bill’s great golfing companions was the late Jack Carr, and by chance my wife & I now own Jack’s home, which makes us nearby neighbours to Bill in Sorrento. Bill is inspirational to all with his motto ‘Always be kind to others’.
May Bill continue to enjoy golf and inspire all he meets.
Happy Birthday Bill, from Paul Clayton.

A few notes from Bill & Barb’s youngest daughter – Heather Belle Murphy nee Horn
In 1978 I was 11yo and I can still remember Mum’s absolute delight at visiting Hawaii – it was a dream come true for her! She even went on weight watchers! The pic with Dad in snorkelling gear was taken in Hawaii by Mum. Dad had gone snorkelling in the morning with a couple of the guys – Mum wasn’t feeling well & Dad thought he’d cheer her up!
On that trip:
– Mum met Jack Lord filming Hawaii 50 in the carpark when the airport shuttle arrived at the Sheraton Honolulu. Jack said he had a cousin in Kyneton and loved Melbourne!
– Mum was in the hotel lift with Petula Clarke – but she didn’t realize who it was until she got out! Petula sang for the IBM crew later that evening. Mum also met James A Mitchener – having read his novel Hawaii. – Mum also met Arthur C Clarke and got Neil Armstrong’s signature with a star at that amazing IBM conference. The friendships built at IBM are a testament to the wonderful colleagues who walked beside Dad, friendships that have stood the test of time and continue to endure today!
And I have very fond memories of the families we regularly met as kids.

This is a message form Tony Bowra after I sent him the email about Bill’s birthday:
Thanks Rob for passing this on, I remember Bill well. When I moved to Melbourne branch in 1962 there was one open space sales room in which electric typewriter, time systems and data processing salesmen all sat. Bill was one of those, an ET guy and a very good one. He was, and am sure still is, a top bloke. Two half rounds of golf per week at 100 years is good going, isn’t it.?
Robin, Bill has expressed interest in chatting with Tony and asked for his e-mail address if agreeable. To support privacy, if Tony is willing to share his e-mail for Bill could you please send this to our ‘Contact Us’ facility on the https://ibmalumni.org.au Home page and we will forward to Bill.
Congratulations Bill on achieving four quarter centuries back-to-back … and amazing life.
